Partridge, in Principles of Bone Biology (Fourth Edition), 2020 Metalloproteinases For information on the literature on malingering and faking with the MMPI-2, Greene (2008) provides a recent summary. In order to make comparisons easier, the validity measures of the MMPI-2-RF will be discussed in the relevant individual sections. Because of the common item core, the norms for the MMPI-2-RF are those for the MMPI-2 with an additional comparative study done to ensure the continued comparability of the norms.

The strength of the original MMPI in its validity scales has been continued, with no fewer than eight on the MMPI-2-RF. For basic clinical use, a reduction in the number of scales that are scored to 50 means interpretation will be more straightforward than with the parent MMPI-2. The main change is the use of the Restructured Clinical scales ( Tellegen et al., 2003) in place of the traditional clinical scales. It is based upon the MMPI-2, but uses only 338 items of the original 567 MMPI-2 items ( Ben-Porath & Tellegen, 2008). The MMPI-2-RF is a major development for this venerable measure whose previous revision failed to overcome many of the original version’s weaknesses ( Helmes & Reddon, 1993). Matthias Ziegler, in Measures of Personality and Social Psychological Constructs, 2015 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) Computerized scoring and interpretations are also available and will be discussed latter in this chapter.Įdward Helmes. For the MMPI-2 five of these raw scores (Hs, Pd, Pt, Sc, Ma) are corrected for defensiveness before the profile is drawn. The obtained raw scores are used then for plotting individual profiles.

Hand-scoring templates are available for manual scoring of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A. Short forms (that is, forms that estimate scale scores from a reduced-item set) of the instrument are not appropriate alternatives to the standard MMPI ( Butcher, Kendall, & Hoffman, 1980 Dahlstrom, 1980) and are not recommended for clinical use ( Greene, 1991 Hart, McNeill, Lutz, & Adkins, 1986 Graham, 1993).

The abbreviated form generates information on the standard validity and clinical indicators included in the first 370 items in the MMPI-2 booklet or the first 350 items in the MMPI-A booklet.

If the subject is not able to complete the full test, an abbreviated version of MMPI-2/MMPI-A can be administered. Like most objective assessments, administration of the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A require standard procedures matching those employed in collecting normative data. In addition to the paper and pencil forms, audio-cassette or computer-automated administration is also available. A 5th- or 6th-grade level of reading is sufficient for comprehension of the items ( Butcher, 1995a). The MMPI-2 and MMPI-A are relatively easy to administer it takes only about 90 minutes to complete the MMPI-2 and 60 minutes for the MMPI-A. Butcher, in Handbook of Psychological Assessment (Third Edition), 2000 Administration and Scoring Overall, the results of this study provide some support for the interpretation that inconsistent responding on the MMPI-2-RF is associated not only with cognitive/reading problems or limitations but also an uncooperative test-taking approach, particularly for elevated TRIN-r scores.Elahe Nezami, James N. Illustrating the practical effects of these results, in follow-up relative risk ratio analyses, individuals with elevations on TRIN-r were at up to five times greater risk of PVT failure than those without elevations. These analyses also supported that TRIN-r was associated with poor performance on collaterally administered PVTs in a subsample of individuals with average reading levels. Analysis of variance found that both VRIN-r and TRIN-r were associated with statistically lower cognitive test scores. This study utilized a sample of 3,457 predominately non-head injury disability claimants to examine the association between inconsistent responding on the MMPI-2-RF and performance on cognitive tests as well performance validity tests (PVTs), an independent indicator of uncooperative test-taking attitude. It is generally well understood that possible reasons for inconsistent responding on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF), as measured by the Variable Response Inconsistency (VRIN-r) and True Response Inconsistency (TRIN-r) scales, include reading or language limitations, cognitive impairment, and intentional random responding however, the interpretive recommendations for the test suggest that higher scores on these scales can also result from an uncooperative test-taking approach.
